I can&#8217;t agree more about the need to have times and spaces where you know you won&#8217;t be interrupted.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Ms. Robinson, whose works include an acclaimed biography of the painter Georgia O\u2019Keeffe and most recently the novel \u201cCost,\u201d realizes that in choosing the unprepossessing small room over the more generously decorated bigger one, she has rejected a space most writers would kill for.<\/p>\n<p>She can explain.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI did everything but write in that room,\u201d Ms. Robinson said. \u201cI paid bills. I printed things out. I sent faxes. I was connected to the Internet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe assumption is that writers can write wherever they can sit down,\u201d she added. \u201cBut the main thing you need as a writer is a sense of certainty that you won\u2019t be interrupted.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Distance from the Internet is part of the issue, but so is having a space that offers minimal distraction.
